We made it!

Sean and I arrived at the Auckland International Airport at 5:30am this morning, Saturday April 4. The 12.5 hour flight took us across the international dateline and into tomorrow, which means that we completely lost Friday. Interesting. Even with all that time madness, we both feel pretty good don’t seem to be experiencing major jet lag. After our plane landed and we got through customs, we caught the bus downtown and then a second one to our hostel.

We watched the sun rise as we rode into the city.

We found our hostel on a quiet, tree-lined street off of Ponsonby, a cool avenue packed with cafes, bars and shops. The hostel is in an old Victorian house and has a lovely patio area with picnic tables and grass. It is worth noting that the shower here is the best I’ve ever had in a hostel; there was hot water and good pressure. It’s better than we had at home! After we dropped off our stuff this morning, we headed to a nearby cafĂ© for a fantastic breakfast of eggs, toast and sausage. We scoped out a possible van to purchase and talked to its German owner. We'll be catching a ride with him tomorrow morning to the big car fair in town. Fingers crossed we have a van by the middle of the week : )

Tonight we have dinner plans with the couple we know here and some of their friends. We're looking forward to meeting more people. Everything is going great and we'll post again in a few days.
Much love, Louisa & Sean

  1. I love your new blog! Isn't technology incredible. We used to have to wait the whole year of traveling to see the photos. Now it's almost like we get to come along! I can't wait to see more. Good luck with the car search!!
