It's finally happened! The corn and beans have broken ground. Yesterday the corn was just barely visible and the beans were just a lump in the earth:

Beans-to-be

The first brave corn
Today, they are PLANTS, complete with lovely, frilly, happy leaves.

We all put in a lot of work to build the garden -- for a week, Sean, Dad, Maya and I moved massive amounts of earth, laid irrigation lines, and planted dozens of plants. It felt great to work in our own back yard, with family, knowing that all our effort will be repaid at harvest time.
Now we're sitting back and watching the food grow: tomatoes, onions, melons, squash, beans, corn, okra, peppers, herbs, and more

(We got this fabulous raspberry bush as a wedding present)
