Books!

Last weekend we learned how to make books, in a one-on-one workshop with Wolfgang. It turns out that it’s not too hard and Sean and I were able to each make a book from start to finish in a day with the help of a few basic tools.

First we made the covers out of heavy cardboard covered with nice paper and an interesting picture. Then we cut and folded the paper and punched holes in each insert.

Finally, we sewed the paper packets together with the leather binding strips in place. The last step was to put the covers in place and glue the bindings down. Voila! A new journal.

We are both really excited about this new skill we’ve acquired and are looking forward to transforming all of our cool old postcards, fabrics, stamps, etc into homemade books. So, for all of you who we told we would never buy another gift for and that you would only be receiving bread and jam for Christmas every year, there may be some relief from the fruitcake! These little books are going to make excellent presents.
