If you ever head to Seattle and the weather is clear.... take the ferry! After looking around the Victorian town of Port Townsend, we made our way to the city on the Sound. The views from the ferry were fantastic, first of Mt Rainer and then of city skyline.

We spent our time in Seattle at the Green Tortoise Hostel, a great hostel located right across the street from the famous Pike Place market.

Our home
The market provided much and asked little. Mini-doughnuts fried while you watch, bowls of fresh crab meat, cherry, peach and nectarine samples, used bookstores with singing shopkeeps (and the Golden Compass trilogy), sushi served with lime and Russian pastries!

Other trips were made to the wonderful (and free!) Frye museum of art, the modernist and expansive public library, and walks to all sorts of neighborhoods.

All in all, Seattle was good to us but the mountains called and so, after a tip from a fellow camper at the Hoh, we headed north, then east, to what most consider the wildest place in Washington.
