We said goodbye to Auckland (again) and headed south for the first time.

The Sky Tower in the morning
The drive around the Coromandel Peninsula was lovely, with clear turquoise water, lush bush, and striking white cliffs.

We stopped for lunch and had a hike down to Cathedral Cove.

Our lunch spot, what a treat!

We walked through the Cathedral (above) and found ourselves on a gorgeous beach with a dozen dolphins(!) playing in the surf. We stood there and watched them for about twenty minutes until the ominous weather sent us hurrying back up the trail.
