San Francisco - City Tour

It felt great to arrive in San Francisco after two days of hard driving covering over 500 miles. Claire was there to welcome us with open arms to her wonderful little abode in Berkeley overlooking the bay. She had to work the next day, so we were on our own to explore the big city and see as much as we could on foot. We started the day taking the BART from Berkeley, which was super fast and convenient as it dropped us right in the heart of downtown.

Our first destination was Chinatown, which yielded a wild early morning walk through this famous district.

There was a lot to see...most of it unidentifiable, like the items found in these bins:

We could identify these specimens (dried seahorses, anyone?) and managed to snap a photo before being shooed away by the shopkeeper.

We loved the architecture and spent lots of time looking up at these awesome scalloped buildings.

We also played the proper tourist role and took a little boat tour around the bay. It offered amazing views of the city and took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz.

A beautiful day on the bay
